Forward Touch, Forward Pass, Forward Run Drill 1


The aim of the drill is to create the mentality of being forward thinking with the ball. This is done to create a mindset of forward thinking attacking football.
Use an area of 40 yards by 25 yards with a large or small goal. Players start as shown with three lines A, B and C. The player in line B makes a forward touch before passing to the player making a forward diagonal run on line C. He then follows and overlaps. Player C then passes to Player A who has made a forward run , C carries on his run forward. A then passes to B who has made the overlap. Player B then passes to Player C for a shot on goal.
Coaching Points
-Recieve the ball accross the body facing up the field
-Take a forward touch before passing
-Pass the ball on the stride of a forward running team mate
-Increase the speed of play:Play as fast as possible with out making mistakes progress from 2 touch to 1 touch
-Correct Finishing Technique

Passing and Fitness Drill-Cone Play


Cone Play
Area-20 yards long x 15 yards wide, place a cone 5 yards from each end. 5 players begin on each cone, one ball is used. The drill starts with the first player on cone A passing to the first player on cone B he then sprints to end of the line at cone B. The reciever on cone B then passes back to the next player on the front of the line at cone A with one touch and sprints to the back of that line. The drill repeats at high pace with few mistakes as possible.

Shooting and Fitness Drill

Play is set out as above starting on the half way line with one cone 5 yards out from the centre circle and a second cone 5 yards out from the D of the penalty area. Players start at cone A and on the coaches signal run backwards to the penalty spot before sprinting forward to cone B. The first player back exhchanges a one-two with the coach while waiting for the second player. When the second player returns both players sprint backwards to cone A before sprinting forwards to the coach who plays a pass to the first player back who must then turn and run on goal to shoot or play a a one-two with teh coach before turning to run on goal and shoot. The second player must attampt to tackle before a shot can be made.

Dribbling Drill -Dribbling Diamond

Dribbling Diamond

Set up as above with cones 10 yards apart. Players should be in groups of four one on each cone with a ball each. Starting on the signal of the coach the players run clockwise and perform one dribbling move before running to the next cone and repeating.

-Dribbling technique
-Running with the ball
-Technical/Fitness drill
-Technical drill from younger players
-Moving at speed with the ball
Ask for the drill to be performed as fast as possible with as few mistakes as possible.
Perform for 3 minutes before changing direction of before changing the dribble.

Progressions

1- Move in opposite direction to work both feet
2-Change the required Dribble move
3- Increase the distance by 10 yards upto 30 yards to work on fitness
4-Add a central cone which players must dribble to before moving to the next cone
5-Allow players to select the dribble move they perform
